We took the ferry from Interlaken to Brienz. The shop is at the other end of town from the ferry dock. There wasn't much open when we visited so the walk took only about 15 minutes. The walk back along the lake front path provides some very nice views of the lake. There are some functional items, cutting boards, bread plates and such, as well as decorative pieces. The Christmas Nativity sets are amazing.
Brienz is famous for wood carvings and the Haggler family is one of the few remaining artisans continuing this tradition. The store is situated beside the Lake of Brienz and is a sight to behold. The store has a variety of handcrafted items that are collectibles. From the smallest items like farm animals, fruits, and jewelry boxes to images of farm workers in their native attires, all wonderfully sculpted with great attention to details. It is reassuring that this tradition will continue as new generation of sculptors can be seen doing their crafts inside the store, upper deck. Very skillful and focused on their craft. The store ship items worldwide... and yes that famous cuckoo clock interest me more.
Visited the shop they gave beautiful Xmas decorations holly family sculptures. You can even see the carves at work. The items are pretty expensive but each of them is a masterpiece!
It's amazing what lonely winter days can do for the imagination. The wood carvers from this region work wonders with a piece of wood. The museum also displays cuckoo clocks and music boxes, all testament to the skills of the people.
